What Is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a non-surgical exfoliating treatment that removes dead cells from the outermost surface of the skin.

Our diamond-tip system uses a controlled abrasive treatment head together with suction to lift away loosened surface debris while exfoliating the skin.

The intensity can be adjusted according to the treatment area, your skin condition and sensitivity.

What Can Microdermabrasion Help With?

Microdermabrasion may be considered for concerns including:

The combination provides controlled mechanical exfoliation without the loose crystals used in some traditional microdermabrasion systems.

Your skin is assessed before treatment and we discuss your current skincare, sensitivity and the concerns you would like to improve.

Treatment

The skin is cleansed before the diamond-tip handpiece is passed across the treatment area in controlled movements.

The combination of exfoliation and suction removes accumulated surface cells and leaves the skin feeling smoother and more polished.

Finishing Products

After treatment, appropriate hydrating and soothing skincare is applied along with sun protection.

Does Microdermabrasion Hurt?

Microdermabrasion is generally comfortable. You may feel light scratching or suction as the handpiece moves across the skin, but the treatment should not be painful.

The intensity can be adjusted if your skin is particularly sensitive.

Is There Any Downtime?

Microdermabrasion usually involves little downtime. Some clients experience temporary pinkness, sensitivity or tightness immediately afterwards.

Because freshly exfoliated skin can be more sensitive to UV exposure, daily SPF is particularly important following treatment.

How Often Can I Have Microdermabrasion?

The appropriate interval depends on your skin, sensitivity and treatment goals.

Some clients choose occasional treatments when their skin feels dull or congested, while others may benefit from a short course spaced several weeks apart.

We will recommend a schedule based on your skin rather than treating unnecessarily frequently.

Who May Not Be Suitable for Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion may need to be avoided or postponed where there is:

• Active or inflamed acne
• Broken or damaged skin
• Active skin infection
• A cold sore in the treatment area
• Significant irritation or inflammation
• A flare of a sensitive skin condition
• Very recent aggressive skin treatment or resurfacing

We will assess your skin first and recommend another treatment where microdermabrasion is not appropriate.

Microdermabrasion for Acne-Prone Skin

Microdermabrasion can help with surface congestion and rough texture in appropriately selected skin, but it is not suitable over actively inflamed acne.

Removing accumulated surface cells can make dull skin appear brighter and smoother, while fine superficial lines may look temporarily softened.

Microdermabrasion does not directly replace lost volume or significantly remodel deeper collagen, so clients with more established concerns may benefit from treatments specifically designed for skin rejuvenation.

Microdermabrasion or Dermaplaning?

Both treatments provide physical exfoliation, but they work differently.

Dermaplaning uses a sterile blade to remove surface skin cells together with fine vellus hair, whereas diamond-tip microdermabrasion uses an exfoliating treatment head and suction.

The best option depends on your skin type, sensitivity and whether removal of facial vellus hair is also something you would like.

Microdermabrasion or a Chemical Peel?

Microdermabrasion provides mechanical surface exfoliation, while professional chemical peels use carefully selected acids to exfoliate and address particular skin concerns.
