Acne Scarring

What causes acne scarring?

Acne scars are the result of inflammation of acne blemishes. The acne pore swells and a breakdown occurs in the wall of the pore. Some acne blemishes are small and the scars created are shallow and heal quickly. Sometimes the contents of blemishes spill into the surrounding tissue and cause deeper scars. A combination of micro needling and chemical peels can be an effective treatment for acne scaring.

Other causes can be:

  • Genetic condition – tends to run in families (although not always)
  • Hormonal changes (e.g. puberty, menstrual cycle, menopause, pregnancy)
  • Environmental factors such as stress or exposure to pollution

Symptoms of Acne

  • Spots on the skin, ranging from mild blackheads and whiteheads to tender pus-filled pustules and cysts, which can become infected
  • Greasy skin due to excessive production of sebum
  • Usually occurs on the face, back and chest
  • Flushing (redness) or skin pigmentation, especially in darker skin types

Treatments Available at Derma Aesthetics

Following your consultation with us, we will devise a personalised treatment plan to help reduce or remove the appearance of acne scarring, with a choice of procedures including micro-needling and skin peels.

Glo Modified Jessner Peel 14%

A fantastic skin peel for acne and acne scarring and pigmentation.  One treatment may be sufficient to clear blocked pores and improve skin clarity, however, if you have active acne, a course of three treatments, three to four weeks apart may be required.

Glo Salicylic Peel 30%

For acne, oily skin, fine lines and wrinkles and sensitive skin.  Good for those undergoing acne treatment, as this will accelerate any skincare programme you are using.  Depending on the condition of your skin, you may need several treatments.  For a noticeable result most people need six sessions.

ZO Ossential Acne and Oil Control Treatment

Minimises oil production, large pores and inflammation.  Cleansing gently removes impurities, followed by a micro-scrub to prepare the skin to easily address the extraction process by removing remaining debris from the skin’s surface.  A combination of AHA and salicylic acid is used to minimize excess oil production and tighten pores.

Dermapen For Acne Scars

For years, Dermapen has been providing results and improving the appearance of acne scars. The physiological nature of microneedling can break up fibrous and uneven scar tissue, and encourage the growth of new tissue. Dermapen keeps the epidermis integrity fully intact, which quickens healing time and causes less pain.
